December 9, 2020: The Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series Horizon will return to Australian showrooms in early 2021 – as a fitting final edition before the next-generation 300 Series goes on sale about mid-year.
Toyota dealers have been advised the LandCruiser 200 Series Horizon edition will go into production at the start of 2021.
It is unclear if the Horizon edition will be identical to the limited edition released earlier this year (pictured above and below) or come with subtle changes for 2021.
However, it has been confirmed the Horizon edition will once again be based on the flagship Sahara.
Given recent price rises, the RRP will likely eclipse last year’s Toyota LandCruiser Horizon.
The previous Toyota LandCruiser 200 Sahara Horizon was priced from $129,090 plus on-road costs, which at the time was dearer than the Sahara ($123,590), VX ($102,590), GXL ($91,890) and GX trade pack model ($80,190).
Based on the latest price guides, the Toyota LandCruiser Sahara is currently listed at $124,936 plus on-road costs.
According to information shared with Toyota dealers, the final orders for the Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series are skewed towards the most expensive models.
The Toyota LandCruiser Sahara and Horizon special edition will account for more than one-third of all stock arriving in the final batch early next year, while the VX will account for almost half of all examples delivered from the factory. The GX and GXL will account for the balance.
The Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series will be one of the longest serving generations when it bows out next year. This generation is expected to be the final V8 as the next LandCruiser is rumoured to revert to six-cylinder power.
It will be almost 14 years old when it goes out of production, having been introduced in November 2007.
The previous LandCruiser 100 Series ran for nine years from 1998 to 2007, the LandCruiser 80 series ran for seven years from 1990 to 1997, and the LandCruiser 60 Series ran for nine years from 1980 to 1989. The LandCruiser 50 Series that ran for 13 years from 1967 to 1980.
Only the LandCruiser 70 Series troop carrier and ute have had a longer production run, from 1984 to today.
Footnote: The 2020 LandCruiser Horizon edition released in early 2020 celebrated the company’s 60th anniversary year of its formal establishment in Australia; 400 examples were imported.

Under the bonnet was the standard 4.5-litre V8 turbo diesel and six-speed automatic transmission.
In addition to the unique styling touches, the LC200 Sahara Horizon came with LED lights, side steps, 18-inch alloy wheels, sunroof, power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, four-zone air-conditioning, multi-terrain monitor, premium audio, rear seat DVD player, and satellite navigation.
