Volkswagen Amarok W580: First batch sold out in five minutes

The first 30 examples of the Volkswagen Amarok W580 have sold out online in less than five minutes –

and the special edition will now be sold through the Volkswagen dealer network, with the first deliveries beginning in April 2021.

Demand for the first batch of Volkswagen Amarok W580 super utes was so strong, the company had to expand its launch offer to include the first 42 orders taken – before it could shut down the site.

It means the first 30 cars will still be numbered from 1 through to 30 as launch editions, while the other 12 customers who make up the first 42 deliveries, will also get the Walkinshaw track day experience and factory tour, but not individually numbered vehicles.

At midday today, the Volkswagen Amarok W580 portal went live, accepting $500 deposits for the first 30 spots in the queue.

Pricing announced earlier this week revealed there are two models, the W580 from $71,990 plus on-road costs and the W580S from $79,990 plus on-road costs. Here’s the full run down on the two models.

Volkswagen Australia has forecast 75 per cent of orders will be for the W580S.

Volkswagen plans to include the W580 and W580S as a full-time member of the Amarok line-up over the next two years, until the next-generation model arrives in early 2023.

While there is no extra power for the W580 range, it has improved tyres and suspension for even better road-holding – as well as appearance changes.

A joint project between Volkswagen and the Walkinshaw Automotive Group, the parent company of Holden Special Vehicles and the former Holden Racing Team, the W580 is aimed at the on-road segment of the ute market. However, Volkswagen says it has not ruled out the possibility of an off-road version at a later date.
