The head of Mercedes-Benz Australia, Horst von Sanden, has announced that he will retire at the end of this year.

He will be replaced in the top job by Florian Seidler, who previously served as the CEO of Mercedes-Benz South Africa.

Mr von Sanden arrived in Australia in 2000 to take the position of General Manager of Marketing.

He became Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific Managing Director in July 2003, and took on the role of CEO in 2014.

During his tenure Mercedes-Benz sales in Australia have increased from fewer than 10,000 vehicles per year to over 35,000.
