Roomy city hatch and small SUV staples get improved infotainment system, for a price

Honda is rolling out updated versions of the Jazz and HR-V staples with new infotainment systems.

Both models now get a 7.0-inch touchscreen running Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone linking, plus Siri Eyes Free and Google Voice Search voice-recognition.

"With Apple CarPlay and Android Auto now standard across the range for both HR-V and Jazz, and a well-earned reputation for versatility with their clever Magic Seats, these two popular nameplates continue to deliver an appealing package," Honda claims.

The HR-V has been the top performing model in Honda’s local line-up over the past five years, with more than 60,000 vehicle sales since it was launched. It remains a regular top-three choice among private buyers in the small SUV segment.

Metallic or pearlescent paint is now included in the list price for the HR-V VTi-S, RS and VTi-LX variants.

List prices are up by $500 for each Jazz version, and between $500 and $1150 for each HR-V version, over the March industry pricing guide. We await campaign drive-away pricing to be announced.

The updates are the company's first announcements since news published last month that it would introduce a fixed-price sales model, reduce the choice of cars it sells, and turn its franchise dealers into pure delivery points and showrooms, from July 2021.

Under this new business model, designed to improve flagging profits, the HR-V will remain a vital offering alongside the CR-V, and the Civic. The current Jazz will run for a while yet, but the new one revealed late last year in Tokyo will not be imported.

That likely makes this Jazz update the last for Australia.

“Customer preferences are changing and other industries have evolved while the automotive industry still uses a model that is decades old," Honda Australia director Stephen Collins said at the time.
