The facelifted Chevrolet Equinox has made its official debut in the US at the 2020 Chicago motor show. We're still waiting to hear back from Holden as to when the updated Equinox will land in Australia.
At the front the Equinox now has a much bolder design, with the grille spears now dividing the headlights in two. The upper segment houses the driving lights, and the lower portion is used for the LED main and high beam units.
There are also redesigned bumpers at both ends, a new rear diffuser-style element, and new graphics for the tail-lights.
Standard safety technology Stateside now includes autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keeping assistance, a rear camera, and automatic headlight operation.
Other available safety features include a high definition surround view camera system, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and parking assistant.
In the US there's also a new RS trim line with sportier styling but no extra power. The RS is distinguished by a gloss black grille, dark 19-inch wheels, black badges, quad exhaust tips, and a black interior with red stitching.
High-end variants in the States are also available with a logo projector in the tailgate, and French stitching for the cabin.
The Equinox has struggled to find favour with Australian buyers, shifting just 4562 units in 2019 – well behind the market leaders, such as the Mazda CX-5 (25,539), Toyota RAV4 (24,260), and Nissan X-Trail (19,726), but ahead of the Ford Escape (3326).
In the land of stars and stripes the Chevrolet version has been considerably more popular with 346,049 Equinox crossovers sold in 2019, its best ever figure. Mind you, it still trails the Toyota RAV4 (448,068) and Honda CR-V (384,168).
