Hyundai’s luxury division Genesis has teased five new or updated models – and confirmed an electric SUV – during the world premiere of its first-ever SUV, the GV80.

The GV80 previews the new Genesis ‘signature face’, and horizontal dual lights front and rear.

During a presentation to global media in Seoul this week, the Korean luxury carmaker’s design chief, Luc Donckerwolke, presented a silhouetted image revealing five shadowy vehicles that shed a surprising amount of light on the make-up of the marque’s future line-up.

CarAdvice believes the four cars on the left of the image are, in order, the released GV80, the forthcoming mid-sized GV70 SUV, the face-lifted current G70 sedan and all-new G80 four-door, which Genesis has confirmed will share its new rear-wheel/all-wheel drive platform with its large segment SUV.

Further along the line-up appears to be a new sportscar or sports coupe, the only vehicle in the image to share GV80’s extended lighting in the front fenders.

Meanwhile, the last model to right is believed to be the forthcoming electric Genesis, its distinct point of design difference from the internal-combustion models being its unique V-shaped Dual Lamp headlight treatment.

In an exclusive interview with Australian media at the GV80 unveiling, global Genesis boss Yong-woo Lee said the company will “skip hybrid and go straight to electric vehicle”.

Mr Lee revealed that its first electric car is “not a sedan” and name-checked the Kona city SUV, from sister brand Hyundai, as “a great success”.

The teaser image strongly suggests a crossover body style for Genesis’s electric car debut.

It’s expected that the first electrified Genesis will surface close to production form some time in the next 12 months.
