2020 Honda Accord here in ‘early December’

Honda Australia has indicated the tenth-generation Accord sedan should be hitting local showrooms during the final month of 2019.

Speaking with Drive, a representative for the Japanese brand's local division said the new Accord should be here in "early December", with full pricing and specifications for our market to be announced in the lead-up.

It's likely existing four- and six-cylinder atmo petrol engines will be replaced locally with a pair of turbocharged four-cylinder units.

The first is a 1.5-litre turbo petrol making 143kW and 260Nm, mated to either a six-speed manual or CVT automatic in the American market – we'll likely be auto-only.

Next is the 2.0-litre turbo four, likely to be offered exclusively with the brand's new 10-speed automatic. Outputs for the larger engine are rated at 188kW and 370Nm.

Overseas there's also an Accord Hybrid, teaming a 2.0-litre Atkinson Cycle petrol engine with an electric motor and battery pack, though given Honda Australia's reluctance to introduce hybrid models the petrol-electric Accord probably won't be available here, at least from launch.

Last year Honda Australia confirmed the new Accord will kick start the range-wide rollout of its Honda Sensing active safety and assistance systems, with all versions of the new sedan to get kitted out with features like autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control as standard.

Currently, these systems are generally reserved for higher-spec variants across the company's various model lines, or not offered at all. The new-generation Jazz light hatch, due in Australia next year, is next in line to get the full suite as standard equipment.
