Toyota Australia has confirmed pricing and specifications for the upgraded 2020 Corolla hatch line-up, headlined by the standard inclusion of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the new option of a two-tone paint scheme for flagship ZR models.
UPDATE, 14/10/19: On the topic of a smartphone mirroring retrofit upgrade for existing Corolla owners, Toyota Australia says: "Owners will be able to upgrade their vehicles to be compatible with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. We don’t have full details of the program to share today, but we will make an announcement in the near future".
UPDATE, 15/10/19: Toyota Australia has confirmed several other specification upgrades not outlined in the original press release. The MY20 SX and ZR get front and rear parking sensors as part of the Parking Support Brake system, while the ZR also gets rain-sensing wipers as standard.
First announced in July, the 2020 model-year changes bring the latest infotainment system with smartphone mirroring across the range, while mid-range SX and top-of-the-range ZR models get a safety boost in the form of low-speed AEB in forward and reverse to avoid car park bingles, dubbed parking support brake, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Rounding out the upgrades are the addition of an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat in ZR models, along with the option of a contrasting two-tone paint scheme for the flagship trim level – including a new Feverish Red finish (pictured).
These changes come with minor price rises, too, with the entry-level Ascent Sport manual starting at $23,335 plus on-road costs (+$465), while the ZR Hybrid tops out at $33,635 plus on-road costs (+1765). See below for full price list.
As before, the Corolla range is available with a 125kW/200Nm 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine or a 90kW 1.8-litre hybrid system. The 2.0-litre Ascent Sport entry point can be had with a six-speed manual, while all other models come with a CVT automatic as standard.
"When Toyota launched the all-new Corolla hatch last year, our customers appreciated the high level of safety and features in the car but technology is always evolving and Toyota is keen to offer customers more options to further improve the vehicles they drive, whether from a safety, comfort or style perspective," said Sean Hanley, vice president for sales and marketing at Toyota Australia.
The updated Corolla hatch range is scheduled to hit local showrooms on November 1, with the all-new Corolla Sedan slated to bolster the line-up around the same time.
