2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC pricing and specs
Mercedes-Benz has announced pricing and specs for its refreshed mid-sized rival to the BMW X3 and Volvo XC60, the GLC, now without diesel power.
The new line-up will start with the GLC200, priced at $66,100 before on-roads. Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine making 145kW and 320Nm, up 10kW and 20Nm on its predecessor, sent to the rear wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Inside, the front seats are electrically-powered and trimmed in 'Artico' fake leather. There's dual-zone climate control, black ash open-pore wood trim, ambient lighting, MBUX infotainment with smartphone mirroring, and dual USB ports for back-seat passengers. The tailgate is electrically operated and kick-activated.
Autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, rear cross-traffic alert, active brake assist, blind-spot monitoring, and parking sensors. It rides on a set of 19-inch alloy wheels, and gets LED headlights.
Moving up to the GLC300 ($77,700 before on-road costs) brings a higher-output 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine making 190kW and 370Nm, coupled with all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The pricier GLC300 gains keyless start and entry, side steps, rear privacy glass, 'Multibeam' LED headlights with active high-beam, and the driver assist package with adaptive cruise control, evasive steering assist, lane-keeping assist, and 'pre-safe'.
Moving to the GLC300 Coupe bumps the price to $87,700 before on-road costs, and gives you adaptive suspension, AMG interior trim, a racier steering wheel, and a set of 20-inch alloy wheels on the outside.
From the second quarter of 2020, Mercedes-Benz will also offer the GLC300e plug-in hybrid. Combining a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine with an electric motor, it outputs a combined 235kW and 700Nm. The 100km/h sprint takes 5.7 seconds, and Mercedes claims the 300e will do 2.2L/100km on the combined WLTP test cycle.
Range from the 13.5kWh lithium-ion battery is 43km on the same test cycle, and charging takes two hours with a Mercedes-Benz wallbox. That extends to seven hours using a regular three-pin collector.
Air suspension is standard atop the wider range, along with pre-conditioning and all the hardware for charging. Pricing starts at $80,400 before on-road costs.
Along with the regular range, the GLC will be offered with two Mercedes-AMG powertrains. The GLC43 4Matic ($109,900 before on-road costs for the wagon, and $117,400 for the Coupe) is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 making 287kW and 520Nm, mated with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Inside, it gets a surround sound audio system, a head-up display, three-stage heated front seats with memory and proper leather trim, and illuminated kick plates.
Jumping to the GLC63 S boosts the price ($161,000 for the wagon, and $168,100 for the Coupe) and nets you a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 making 375kW and 700Nm.
Externally, the range-topping GLC gets 21-inch alloy wheels and proper AMG add-ons like squared-off exhaust tips, a Panamericana grille, and a diffuser-style insert in the rear bumper.
