Volvo Cars has hinted at new SUV models that'll join its line-up in the not-to-distant future, namely a sub-XC40 baby SUV and a flagship model to sit above the current XC90.
"Our strategy has been growth, but not through adding pure volumes. We have been going in hard and being better in segments where we have a really strong offering," he told the British publication.
"That is the basic assumption. And now we also have the production capacity to grow this company."
"We are not excluding the idea of additions, especially in very core segments, like the SUV," he continued, "I think we are looking into this possibility now. You should not exclude the idea that there might be a bigger one, but maybe also a smaller one. We will surprise you about that in the future."

Currently, Volvo's smallest and largest SUV models are the XC40 and XC90 respectively. The XC40 is one of the larger vehicles in its class, leaving room for a more hatch-like compact crossover to battle the likes of the Audi Q2 and Lexus UX, while the XC90 can't quite match the sheer size of something like a BMW X7 or Mercedes-Benz GLS.
Auto Express reckons the new baby SUV model could be around 4.0 metres in length, and be offered solely as an electric vehicle.
Geely's recent acquisition of 50 per cent of city car brand, Smart, could also see the Volvo subsidiary draw upon that brand's compact car know-how and share development costs required to downsize the current CMA platform further.
"There’s a trend now that premiumness is more and more decoupled from size, Samuelsson said.
"Small cars can also be premium. Just because you have a small suit, it doesn’t have to be polyester."
It's unclear what such a model would be called, though the Swedish marque has previously trademarked the V20 and V30 names in the US – hinting at a new 20 Series or 30 Series family of compact vehicles. Auto Express notes the company has also owned the rights to the XC10, XC20 and XC30 names for almost two decades in Europe.

Meanwhile, the larger model could be dubbed 'XC100' when it's reportedly scheduled to arrive around 2022, based on the second generation of the company's larger 'SPA' platform – which currently underpins the 60 Series and 90 Series families.
According to the report, the SPA architecture isn't able to go much larger than the current XC90 (above), so the new-generation version is being engineered to support vehicles up to 5.5 metres in length.
The new platform is also said to be in the works for use underneath Polestar's third model, a massive pure-electric SUV. Volvo will then make an even larger seven seater using these underpinnings, according to Auto Express.
A range of high-powered hybrid powertrains are likely to be offered with the new flagship, targeting the Chinese and North American markets. There's scope for an all-electric version, too.
