The facelifted Opel Insignia Sports Tourer has been snapped by photographers at the famed Nurburgring circuit in Germany, hinting at what's in store for the Holden Commodore Sportwagon.
Like previous prototypes we've seen recently, the refreshed Insignia/Commodore will don revised designs for the front and rear fascias, with rejigged lighting at both ends and subtle changes to the bumpers.
We reckon the new-generation Opel Corsa is a good indication of what the Insignia's general design language will look like.
It appears the changes at the rear will be less pronounced than the front, though the high-spec GSi model you see here will likely get revised LED internals for the tail-lights.
Further from the exterior design, the Insignia is expected to get an updated infotainment system and interior trimmings, though it's unclear whether the Opel version will move to an interface supplied by new French parent PSA or soldier on with a General Motors system. We wouldn't be surprised if the 10.0-inch screen from the new Peugeot 508 makes its way over, though we'll have to wait and see if Opel moves away from its GM parts bin.
Under the skin, reports out of Europe suggest the Insignia could add some new PSA-sourced engines to the line-up with this mid-life update, though exactly which ones remains to be seen. An electrified variant could be on the cards, too.
While the updated Opel Insignia is expected to launch in Europe before the end of the year, it's unclear what Holden is planning for the Australian-market Commodore, which the GM-owned brand sources from now PSA-governed Opel in Germany.
