The next-generation Audi S3 sedan has been snapped for the first time during hot weather testing in Europe, giving us an early look at the design.
As will be the case with the A3 and S3 ‘Sportback’ hatch, the all-new A3/S3 sedan will receive an evolutionary styling update rather than a revolutionary one, with clear links to the current model though adopting the lower and wider stance of Audi’s latest range.
Being the S3, this prototype wears a more aggressive body kit and large alloy wheels with low-profile tyres, along with the signature quad-tipped exhaust of Audi’s ‘S’ models.
Key differences to the current-generation model include more angular designs for the head- and tail-lights, which will also pick up new LED signatures.
Expect more significant changes to be made inside, with Audi’s latest MMI infotainment setup to feature incorporating touchscreens up to 10.0 inches, and a new version of the company’s Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster.
We’d say the dashboard layout of the new A1 and Q3 should give a good indication of what to expect from the new A3, which is unlikely to get the dual-screen setup of more expensive models like the A6 and Q8.
The S3 is expected to run a revised version of the current model’s 2.0-litre turbo petrol four, with power output projected to be in the vicinity of 300-320hp (223-238kW).
With quattro all-wheel drive and a quick-shifting S tronic dual-clutch transmission, the new S3 should hit triple figures in around 4.5 seconds on its way to an electronically-governed top speed of 250km/h,
Reports suggest the new-generation Audi A3 will debut around the Frankfurt motor show in September, with S3 and RS3 versions to follow in the months after. Stay tuned to CarAdvice for all the latest, and click the images for the full gallery.
