MG Motor Australia has revealed pricing for its updated ZS SUV, which has gained a new mid-range 'Excite Plus' variant for 2019.
The compact Chinese rival to the Mazda CX-3 and Honda HR-V kicks off at $22,990 drive-away in base 1.5L Excite guise, jumps to $24,990 in 1.0L Excite Plus trim, and tops out at $26,990 drive-away for the Essence 1.0L.
Starting at the base, the ZS Excite is powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine making 84kW and 150Nm. It's mated exclusively with a four-speed automatic – comfortably the fewest gears offered by any of its compact rivals.
Transmission aside, the Excite wants for little. It rides on 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels, and gets LED daytime-running lights, fog lights, and roof rails on the outside.
Inside, there's an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a six-speaker audio system, and a reversing camera. There are parking sensors on the rear, too. The headlights are automatic, and you get tyre-pressure monitoring and configurable electric power steering as well.
The seats are trimmed in a choice of pleather or cloth with contrast stitching, and there's proper 'full-grain leather' on the steering wheel.
Jumping to the mid-range Excite Plus nets you a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine making 82kW and 160Nm, mated to a six-speed automatic. Other than the engine, standard equipment is identical to the base model.
The range-topping Essence has the same 1.0-litre turbocharged engine, but gains satellite navigation, keyless go and a panoramic sunroof – in-built navigation was previously not available on the local ZS line-up.
“We are thrilled to be bringing the MY19 models to our best-selling MG ZS range for our customers," said Pavel Meck, product manager for MG Australia.
"We have taken our local customer feedback on board and have carefully considered this during the design process for the MG ZS 1.0T Excite Plus.”
