Photographers have snapped the first images of the facelifted Chevrolet Equinox this week, previewing what could be in store for the Holden-badged version in the next 12-18 months.
Despite the heavy camouflage, we can see the facelifted crossover gets a two-tier headlight cluster arrangement, with the LED daytime-running light strip sitting high, while the main headlight globes and indicators are positioned in the lower tier. It's unclear whether the trim strip separating the two elements will be an extension of the front grille or body coloured.
It appears there's new bumpers in store as well, while the new front fascia could spell changes for the front guards and bonnet, too.
One of the more interesting findings is that one of the prototypes had a quad-tipped exhaust sticking out from the rear bumper (above), indicating there could be a sporty new variant with a powerful engine on the way.
According to overseas reports there are talks of an Equinox 'SS' or 'RS', though it's unclear whether it will just be a design package or actual mechanical changes.
The overall shape of the tailgate seems to be the same, though the pre-production tail-lights signal there could be some minor revisions in store for the rear light clusters too – perhaps more use of LED technology.
Other changes expected to be in the pipeline are new alloy wheel designs, along with updates to the infotainment and driver assistance technologies. Currently, the Equinox doesn't offer adaptive cruise control, for example, which likely will be addressed to better compete with its growing competitor set.
It's unclear what this means for the locally-sold Holden Equinox at this stage, considering the Lion brand recently halted production of the mid-sized crossover and the Euro-sourced Commodore in October last year due to an overflow of unsold stock.
The Holden-badged Equinox is currently sourced from GM's Ramos Arizpe factory in Mexico.
For the month of February, the Equinox managed 448 registrations in Australia, up 23.1 per cent on the same month in 2018, and 4.1 per cent up year to date.
It currently accounts for 3.5 per cent of the medium SUV segment, which is dominated by the likes of the Mazda CX-5 and Toyota RAV4.
