The second-generation Peugeot 2008 has been spied during winter testing in northern Europe.
If the surfacing of the new 2008 seems a little flat and bland, it's because there are quite a few small false panels affixed underneath the camouflage to hide many of the styling elements of the final car.
We can see, though, the new 2008 will continue with Peugeot's latest studded grille design. With its slanted LED columns and thin design, the tail-lights look like they're lifted straight off the latest 508.
The halogen headlights are chunkier than the slim units fitted to either the 508 and 3008. Lower down on the front fascia this prototype sports a set of vertical LED driving lights right next to the fog lamps.
The yellow stickers on the windscreen indicate this prototype has an electrified powertrain of some sort. Given the continued presence of a fuel filler flap, this car seems to be a hybrid.
Turbocharged three- and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines will likely be employed throughout the range. An earlier report indicates a full electric version will be offered from around 2020.
It will be interesting to see how the company adapts its i-Cockpit dashboard design to vehicles at this more price-sensitive end of the market.
The car reportedly rides on the new CMP (compact modular platform) architecture co-developed with Dongfeng, which should see more than a few kilograms lost.
