Mercedes-AMG GT R previewed on the track – video

Upcoming performance flagship teased again ahead of Los Angeles reveal later this week.

Mercedes-AMG has published a new preview video of the upcoming GT R Pro, which will be unveiled in full at the Los Angeles motor show in the coming days.

The 18-second clip doesn't give away much, but it does give brief glimpses of the GT R Pro's additional aero bits, along with confirming fuel consumption and emissions figures.

Compared to the 'standard' GT R, the Pro version gets more aggressive front and rear bumpers with extra flics and gills for improved aerodynamics.

In the accompanying tweet (and stated in the video), Mercedes-AMG rates the GT R Pro's combined fuel consumption at 12.4L/100km, while its CO2 output is claimed at 284g per kilometre.

A quick check of the performance division's international website shows that those figures are identical to the GT R, so it's unclear whether the 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 will get any modifications – the regular GT R makes 430kW and 700Nm, so it's not exactly lacking in pep.

What we do know, however, is that the 'Pro' will be even further optimised for the track. So even if the engine remains the same, the aero add-ons and likely suspension modifications should help to shave off those precious tenths of a second off the GT R's lap times.

In the meantime, stay tuned to CarAdvice for our coverage of the GT R Pro's reveal alongside the updated AMG GT range at the Los Angeles motor show later this week, and watch the video below:
