'I was out of my comfort zone for the majority of the hot laps.'
It seems like new Nurburgring records crop up weekly, and the whole caper can get a bit fatiguing. Vaughn Gittin Jr, drifter and certified madman, has managed to circumvent that fatigue with his smokey, sideways lap of the legendary 'Green Hell'.
Central to the attempt was a supercharged Mustang GT, putting around 671kW to the rear wheels. The rims are wrapped in road-legal Nitto tyres, although we'd suggest they weren't road-legal after a lap at full noise...
"I was out of my comfort zone for the majority of the hot laps," Gittin Jr. said of the unique lap.
"I did not know the Green Hell nearly as well as I thought I did. Everything changes when you're going sideways at those speeds. When we stopped for the first tire change I was elated," he went on.
"I had to catch my breath, which is something I have never experienced behind the wheel since I was a rookie in Formula Drift."
