20i and 30i four-cylinder variants to sit below M40i in sports car line-up.

BMW has revealed the upcoming Z4 range in its entirety, ahead of an in-the-metal debut at the Paris motor show next month.

Along with the range-topping Z4 M40i, the soft-top BMW will be offered in sDrive20i and sDrive30i guises. Both are powered by 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engines making 145kW/320Nm and 190kW/400Nm respectively, both of which are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard. For reference, the M40i offers 250kW/500Nm from its 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six.

There's no manual here, folks. The soft top operates in just 10 seconds at speeds up to 50km/h, and the boot will hold 281L with the roof up or down. It's black as standard, but an 'anthracite with silver effect' top is offered as an option.

LED headlights are standard across the range, while LED matrix units are available as an option. Down back, the entire range has upswept LED tail-lights very similar in design to those on the 8 Series. 18-inch wheels are standard across the range, while 19s are available.

BMW hasn't gone into great detail about the car's construction – we can expect that in Paris – but it's at pains to highlight the 'extremely rigid body structure and chassis mountings' underpinning the entire range. It has, however, detailed the driver assistance systems that'll be available across the range.

Collision and pedestrian warning with autonomous emergency braking, along with lane-departure warning are standard, while adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, a rear-view camera, an automated parking assistant and a head-up display are all available as options.

BMW OS7.0 is standard for the infotainment, coupling a 10.25-inch central screen with an optional active driver display. 'Hey BMW' voice control will be added early in 2019, with the company announcing it's working on a virtual assistant at the moment. Mercedes already offers similar capability in its MBUX system.

Vernasca leather buckets will be standard in the 30i and 40i, while the entire range gets seat with built-in headrests. Hidden behind them are fixed roll bars, a convertible necessity turned into a styling cue.
