The limited-run Audi Sport Performance Parts R8 Edition has been revealed, packing a handful of go-faster bits to make the 'base' V10 supercar a bit more special.
Just 44 examples will be offered worldwide, finished in Misano Red with a bespoke aerodynamics package developed by Audi Sport. The body add-ons are made of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP), were reportedly developed in the wind tunnel, and include a front splitter, side skirts, aero flics on the front bumper and a racy rear wing.
There's also a carbon-fibre diffuser helping deliver 250kg of downforce at 330km/h, up 100kg on the standard car. The effects of the new package are also felt at lower speeds. At a more realistic 150km/h – well, more realistic if you're in parts of Europe – the CFRP addenda double downforce to 52kg.
The Performance Parts R8 Edition rides on 20-inch wheels that are a handy 8kg lighter than the units they replace. They're wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres measuring 245/30 at the front and 305/30 at the rear, while carbon-ceramic brake discs lurk behind for serious stopping power on the track.
To ensure keen track-day drivers (and control freaks) can take the car's performance into their own hands, there's a bespoke double-wishbone adjustable suspension setup. Nothing says 'serious driver' like spending time with a few spanners ahead of a casual afternoon at Silverstone, and the new R8 limited-edition is there to abide.
Inside, you get a unique sports steering wheel to set the car apart from the 'regular' R8 V10 Plus, along with niceties like leather, navigation, a rear-view camera and sports bucket seats.
The only part that hasn't been fettled is the engine. As with the 'regular' R8 V10 Plus, there's 449kW and 560Nm on tap, hooked up to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission feeding all four wheels.
Audi has confirmed five special-edition R8s will be making their way Down Under, with pricing and timing to be confirmed.
