And they match, almost exactly, what we expected.
Mazda has finally revealed full specifications for its CX-8 diesel seven-seater, ahead of a July 1 on-sale date.
The brand provided range pricing earlier this month, but what each grade of car offered was a mystery... until now. Perhaps unsurprisingly, final specs match those revealed in a dealer document leaked to CarAdvice earlier this year.
The range kicks off with the Sport FWD ($42,490 before on-roads), jumping to the Sport AWD ($46,490) and topping out with the Asaki AWD ($61,490).
The base Sport comes with red-and-black cloth trim, piano black dashboard garnish and chrome highlights as standard inside, along with niceties like rear air vents, three-zone climate control, and a pretty handy haul of active safety gear.
Blind-spot monitoring, high-beam assist, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control with stop/go, rear cross-traffic alert and autonomous emergency braking are all standard, along with a rear-view camera and parking sensors.
Jumping to the Asaki adds nappa leather trim to the heated seats (front and outboard rear) as standard, in either black/red or white, and real wooden inserts for the dashboard and doors. Mmm, luxurious. Rear-window sun blinds, a 10-speaker Bose audio system and a heated steering wheel are also standard in the top-spec car.
On the safety front, the Asaki gains a 360-degree surround-view monitor, adaptive LED headlights and keyless entry with push-button start. Outside, a set of 19-inch alloy wheels distinguishes the CX-8 Asaki from lesser variants.
Regardless of which trim you choose, the CX-8 is powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel making 140kW and 450Nm, the latter of which is on tap from 2200rpm. Front-wheel drive cars claim 5.7L/100km on the combined cycle, while the all-wheel drive pushes that figure out to 6.0L/100km.
Both 8 and 9 share their 2930mm wheelbase, but the former is 175mm shorter, 129mm narrower and has a 17mm lower roof. It's also available with a diesel, where the CX-9 is petrol-only.
Cargo volume is strong for this class, with 209 litres behind the third row and 33 litres beneath the boot floor. With the third row folded, that space increases to 742 litres, while folding the second row boosts overall cargo capacity to 1727 litres.
