Project 8 to be sole V8-powered model
Yep, you read that correctly. Jaguar's Special Vehicles Operations (SVO) division won't be making a V8-powered XE SVR – according to a new report.
Speaking with Car and Driver, SVO's senior programs manager, Duncan Smith, said the performance arm wants to distinguish itself from the likes of BMW's M division and Mercedes-AMG by tailoring projects to fit every individual car it works on.
The XE SV Project 8, for example, "was the extreme embodiment of what the XE could do", he said – indicating the 300-strong production run of the hardcore super sedan will likely be the only version of the British medium sedan to feature the company's 5.0-litre supercharged V8.
It's believed this decision has something to do with the release of the Jaguar F-Pace SVR – which Car and Driver suspects took priority over an M3-fighter due to the increasing global demand for hot SUV models.
Smith told the publication that the Range Rover Sport SVR has been a sales success for the company (despite its $238,200 starting price in Australia), and the more affordable F-Pace SVR will likely follow suit.
