2018 Lexus UX: Sharp face, interior revealed
A first look at the compact crossover
Lexus has given the world a first look at the new compact UX SUV, set to take on the BMW X1, Audi Q2 and Volvo XC40.
We've only been given a peek at the front three-quarter view of the compact crossover at this point, revealing a predictably polarising face and sharply-creased flanks.
Although it's toned down compared to the outrageous UX Concept unveiled at the 2016 Paris motor show, there's no doubt it's still an aggressive-looking thing.
The nose is home to a massive Spindle Grille and swoopy headlamps, complete with a slim daytime running light signature. There are low-set air intakes in the front bumper, and the requisite crossover cladding on the wheel-arches.
Lexus hasn't revealed the trim or spec of the car pictured but, based on the tricky headlamps and big wheels, we'd suggest it's a higher-grade model.
Behind the wheel, the company says we can expect a "highly focused driver’s cockpit with a wide and inviting passenger space" – to our eyes, it looks like a more neatly integrated, less angular take on the high-set console featured in the current-generation NX.
As for power? The car will definitely be offered with a hybrid powertrain – our story last week uncovered a UX250h badge – and we'd expect to see a range of compact petrol engines as well. It's likely to be built on the Toyota New Global Architecture from the C-HR.
The car will be fully unveiled at the Geneva motor show. Stay tuned for more coverage from the floor of the show.
