The SuperUte Series is a production-based motorsport category for dual- or twin-cab utes with turbocharged diesel engines and rear-wheel drive.
Performance will be strictly controlled to ensure parity between the six homologated brands – Holden Colorado, Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi Triton, Mazda BT-50, Toyota HiLux and Isuzu D-Max – with engine outputs limited to 254kW and 678Nm of torque. Additionally, a minimum weight of 1800kg applies to all homologated SuperUte models.
Confirming Holden’s entry into the new Series, GM Holden General Manager – Brand, Media and Sponsorship, Emma Pinwill said: “SuperUtes is an exciting new racing series and supporting Australian motorsport has been an important part of Holden’s heritage, so we are delighted to homologate Colorado for the series.
“Colorado has been engineered to handle anything thrown at it by our customers, from inner city and suburban roads to rural highways, dirt roads, and off-road.
“The race track is no different and we are confident Colorado will carry on Holden’s winning tradition.”
The SuperUtes Series has released a provisional eight-round calendar which will see the Aussie workhorses make their competition debut in Adelaide. Tantalisingly, the SuperUtes are slated to race at Mount Panorama in October in support to the iconic Bathurst 1000.
The first test of an homologated SuperUte took place on the Gold Coast last week, with a Mitsubishi Triton completing a 50km shakedown at Norwell Motorplex.
