The most obvious of difference between the two cars is the AMG model's single bar grille with the high performance marque's now familiar diamond-studded background.
The GLE63 features a different front fascia design, much larger wheels and significantly chunkier tyres. Two temporary exhaust tips also poke out prominently from their highly stylised surrounds.
Although it has yet to be confirmed, the GLE63 will likely use the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine employed by the E63 models.
In the regular E63 the V8 donk cranks out 420kW of power and 750Nm of torque, while the E63 S delivers an even more impressive 450kW of power and 850Nm of torque.
Like the sedan, the AMG GLE63's engines should also be paired exclusively with the company's 4Matic all-wheel drive system and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
More pedestrian versions of the new GLE range will be powered by the company's new turbocharged inline six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, which made their debut with the recent S-Class facelift.
The next-generation GLE will be based on the MRA rear- and all-wheel drive architecture that underpins the C-, E-, and S-Class ranges.
Although the new GLE range could debut as early as the end of this year, the GLE63 won't make its debut until 2018.
