Vauxhall concept leads green charge at Geneva

Unlike many manufacturers heading into the Show, Vauxhall is remaining extremely tight-lipped on the concept, but said in a statement that the new car “embodies much of the company’s future thinking in terms of design and engineering”.

Vauxhall has hinted that it could be a large car (probably a sedan) that does not need to sacrifice comfort to be environmentally efficient.

Despite only revealing that it uses “green innovation and alternative propulsion”, the “VOLTEC” badging on the grille suggests the concept will share its electric architecture with the extended-range electric Vauxhall Ampera, which will join it on the stand.

Based on the Chevrolet Volt and sharing the design language of the Astra and Insignia, the five-door, four-seater Ampera is scheduled for production late next year.

Rounding out the progressive green range from Vauxhall will be its most economical production car to date – the Corsa ecoFLEX.

The ecoFLEX achieves the incredible economy of 3.7 litres/100km combined and CO2 emissions of 98g/km despite a 15kW/20Nm gain which takes the 1.3-litre CDTi turbodiesel engine out to 70kW and 190Nm of torque.
