2007-14 Mitsubishi Triton added to Takata recall: 57,000 vehicles affected
Mitsubishi has issued a recall for more than 57,000 of its ‘ML’ and ‘MN’ Triton utes from the 2007 to 2014 model-years as part of the worldwide Takata airbag scandal.
This latest notice comes after Fiat Chrysler recalled over 22,000 Chrysler 300, Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Ram vehicles this week as part of the Takata campaign, which has affected more than 53 million units globally.
Mitsubishi has already recalled 59,500 of its previous-generation Lancer for the defective airbag inflators.
The Triton recall affects 57,025 utes manufactured between 2007 and 2014, the VIN ranges for these vehicles can be viewed here.
As with previous Takata recalls, the airbag inflator may release metal fragments when it deploys, which can cause serious injury, even death. In the Triton’s case, the fault is limited to the driver’s airbag.
Owners of the affected utes will be contacted by Mitsubishi Australia as soon as parts become available to arrange their airbag inflator to be inspected and replaced free of charge.
