The EV Concept ditches the 3.5-litre turbocharged V6 and nine-speed dual-clutch transmission from the production NSX in favour an electric Twin Motor Unit on each axle. With a total of four electric motors, the concept is able to independently allocate torque to each wheel.
Large front and rear spoilers, along with an all-new rear diffuser have been added to a body that's designed to look similar to the production NSX.
The company hasn't provided any figures related to the powertrain, such total power and torque output, or performance figures. These details may be released later this week, as the race is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 26, local time.
Last year, Honda entered an EV based on the CR-Z hatch. Compared to the 2015 entry, this year's NSX-based vehicle is said to have three times the total output of last year's car, while the drivetrain's management software has been updated to deliver "more precise thrust at each wheel".
The NSX EV Concept will compete in the Electric Modified class against the Entropy Racing EVSR, Rhys Millen's eO PP100, and Nobuhiro Tajima's E-Runner Concept_One.
Behind the wheel of the Honda EV Concept will be Tetsuya Yamano, who last year drove Honda's CR-Z-based EV in the exhibition category.
