The new Polestar Optimisation Package for the second-generation Volvo XC90 T8 has been revealed overnight and, unlike a similar package unveiled last week for the S90 and V90 D5 and T6, it includes a power and torque bump for the Swedish brand's flagship SUV.
With the Polestar Performance Optimisation Package, overall system output for the XC90 T8 Twin Drive's plug-in hybrid drivetrain is lifted to 320kW of power and 680Nm of torque.
Under the bonnet, the 2.0-litre turbocharged and supercharged petrol engine has been tuned to develop 249kW of power and 440Nm torque. That's up 14kW and 40Nm on the standard version of the engine offered in both the T6 and T8 models.
The 65kW/240Nm electric motor remains untouched.
Volvo claims that the Polestar-tuned XC90 T8 is now capable of completing the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.5 seconds - 0.4 seconds quicker than the 'standard' XC90 T8.
The Swedish car maker says that despite the increased performance, fuel economy remains at 2.1L/100km. Also unchanged is the T8's 43 kilometres of pure-electric range.
Along with the engine upgrade, Polestar has also tweaked the SUV's throttle response and revised the gear-holding function to stay in the current gear when the driver is tackling a corner at high lateral g-forces.
Volvo's Australian arm has confirmed local availability of the Polestar Optimisation Package, starting at $1850.
A spokesperson for the company confirmed with CarAdvice today that although this price includes GST, it excludes dealer labour costs and luxury car tax.
