How Ford will select 500 lucky customers is not entirely clear, but the company says that "consideration will be given to a variety of factors, including loyal Ford customers and current Ford GT owners".
In the online application questionnaire, the options for describing your dealings with Ford include ownership of a Ford GT and other Ford Motor Company products, an existing business relationship with Ford, and being motorsport enthusiast, "influencer of public opinions", and collector.
Interested parties won't need to pay a thing to submit an application. Final pricing hasn't been set yet, but Ford says that the estimated starting pricing will be in the low-to-mid US$400,000 ($520,000) bracket, before options, taxes and other government fees.
That's a significant price jump over the previous generation model, which retailed for between US$140,000 and US$150,000 ($182,000 to $195,000).
Further details about the new GT have also been revealed via the accompanying online configurator. The new GT will be initially available with the choice of eight exterior colours, eight stripe options, three different types of carbonfibre finishes, five brake callipers colours, and four interior design packages.
Mounted behind the passenger cell is a 3.5-litre turbocharged V6 engine connected to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The GT rides on 20-inch forged aluminium wheels or optional 20-inch carbonfibre rims. The suspension setup includes electronic active damping, a push button-activated front lift system, and two ride height settings.
In terms of driver and passenger comfort, the GT will come standard with a Sync 3 infotainment setup and a 6.5-inch touchscreen, a 10.1-inch LCD instrument cluster, active noise cancellation, and a reversing camera.
To apply, you must be able to receive and register the car in one of the following countries: the USA, Canada, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the UK, China, Macau, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
Applications close on May 24, 2016 at 4.01am GMT for those living in China, Macau and the Philippines. For the rest of the world, the window shuts on May 12, 2016 at 3.59am GMT.
Deliveries of the Ford GT are expected to begin towards the end of 2016.
