2016 Hyundai Ioniq hybrid spotted undisguised in USA
The highly anticipated 2016 Hyundai Ioniq hybrid has been spotted completely free of disguise while filming a commercial in California.
Hyundai's 'Prius fighter', the Ioniq will offer the choice of petrol-electric hybrid, petrol-plug-in-electric hybrid or full-electric powertrains within the one model line-up.
In Australia, the Ioniq will be offered in hybrid form initially, although Hyundai's local arm has confirmed that it is working to get the plug-in model onto the schedule.
These new photos of the Ioniq, which will be officially unveiled in January 2016, show a car similar in size to the i40 (when compared to the Mercedes-Benz ML55 camera car).
On the styling front, the Ioniq wears a grille and headlight design that is both familiar Hyundai fare and an evolution towards what could be a new design language for the wider range.
Noticeable on the front grille is a smooth panel that would likely house adaptive cruise-control functionality.
A curious lift-back design features at the back, combining elements of the Veloster coupe and original Honda CRX.
The Ioniq is due to go on sale in Australia in the third quarter of 2016.
