2016 Mitsubishi Triton recalled for tow rating sticker swap

Variants in the new 2016 Mitsubishi Triton range have been recalled this week, due to incorrect information presented on the vehicle’s tow rating labels.

The recall affects 1827 vehicles, specifically in the two-wheel drive GLX Double Cab Auto Pick Up, four-wheel drive GLX Single Cab Manual Cab Chassis, and four-wheel drive GLX Club Cab Manual Cab Chassis lines - and only those fitted with Mitsubishi’s Genuine Accessory tow-bar kits.

On three separate labels, positioned at the towbar and on the inside edge of the B-pillar on the driver’s side, the vehicle’s tow rating is listed at 3100kg braked, with a towball download rating of 310kg.

The actual figures for the affected models is 3000kg and 300kg respectively, meaning that the labels could potentially lead the user to exceed the official limit.

Mitsubishi notes that although the information is not presented correctly on the labels, the supplied owner’s manual shows the correct limits.

The carmaker has confirmed it will contact owners of affected vehicles by mail to arrange replacement of the incorrect labels. Owners can also contact Mitsubishi on 1300 1312 11.
