Lamborghini Centenario LP770-4 limited edition hypercar will debut in 2016 – report

According to TF1, Lamborghini's upcoming small production run model will be known as a Centenario LP770-4, instead of the widely rumoured name of Hyperveloce.

Instead of its regular policy of naming its cars after famous Spanish fighting bulls, the Centenario, if the car is indeed badged as that, is said to honour the centenary of the birth of the company's founder, Ferruccio Lamborghini. Born on April 28, 1916, Lamborghini founded his eponymous sports car company in 1963 as a competitor to Ferrari.

If the French TV network's sources are correct, the new limited-edition Lamborghini will feature a 556kW (770 metric horsepower) version of the brand's 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine.

Coupled with an all-wheel drive system, it's expected that the new hypercar will be able to polish off the 0-100km/h standard in 2.7 seconds and go on to hit a top speed in excess of 350km/h.

TF1's sources agree with a report last month that Lamborghini's next hypercar will debut at the 2016 Geneva motor show in March and that production will be limited to just 20 units, with pricing rumoured to start at one million euros ($1.6 million).
