This is backed up by the large exhaust tips, prominent boot-lip spoiler, aggressive rear diffuser-type element, black cloverleaf-style alloy wheels and a large white badge at the top of the front fender.
At the very least, this photo confirms not only the look of the new sedan, but also its long rumoured name: Giulia.
It's understood that the top-spec Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde is powered by a turbocharged V6 designed by Ferrari. There will also be turbo-diesel and turbo four-cylinder petrol engines further down the range.
The new Giulia marks a return to rear-wheel drive for Alfa Romeo's mainstream vehicles. Since the early 1990s, all of the storied brand's volume models have been based on front-wheel drive platforms shared with other marques.
Fiat Chrysler is keen for the Giulia to be a success as it will play in the same higher margin segment as the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4. And, as such, will help the company's mainstream European operations diversify away from smaller and less profitable vehicles.
A report earlier this month, which quoted internal sources, claimed that the company's focus on Alfa Romeo's relaunch in the luxury market has caused the Italian-American company to delay many updated or redesigned products from its American operations.
Stay tuned to Car Advice, we'll have all the photos and details about Alfa Romeo's new Giulia sedan when it's revealed tomorrow.
