During the Easter long weekend, the upcoming Citroen Aircross concept car was first officially teased by the French car maker, before a low-resolution leak appeared online.
The leak (above) appeared on the French forum site WorldScoop and is supposedly from the cover of the next edition of l’Automobile magazine.
Although the photo is highly pixelated, it shows a handsome looking crossover concept with black plastic wheel arch extensions, large alloy wheels, blacked out pillars for a floating roof look, and short front and rear overhangs.
Up front, the leaked image features the same split headlight and grille design that’s hinted at by Citroen’s official teaser image (above). The teaser was posted late last week on the company’s social media feeds and was accompanied with these words: “Have you ever seen a camera on four wheels? No? So, be ready on 8th of April…”
According to l’Automobile, the concept car is due to make its full public debut at the Shanghai auto show, which begins on April 22.
Overall, if the leak proves to accurate, the look of the Aircross concept will be more aggressive and more off-roader-like than the current range of Aircross vehicles. In Europe, Citroen currently markets the C4 Aircross, that is essentially a Mitsubishi ASX with a more Gallic front and rear end. The C4 Aircross was sold in Australia, but has since been withdrawn.
In South America, the company also sells the C3 Aircross, which is a C3 Picasso with jacked up suspension, wheel arch extensions, bash plate mouldings, and a spare wheel mounted across the tailgate. Despite these changes, the C3 Aircross is offered only in front-wheel drive.
