Suzuki says that the iM-4's "capsule-like minimalist body ... gently embraces the driver", while the blacked out A- and B-pillars give the vehicle a helmet-like appearance. The headlight and grille graphics are reportedly inspired by sunglasses.
Just as importantly, the iM-4 features a new platform, a four-wheel drive system, a high hip point, a high minimum ground clearance, and short overhangs.
The company hasn't gone into great detail about the concept's drivetrain, except to say that it's powered by a 1.2-litre engine coupled with a mild hybrid system.
There are lithium-ion batteries for storing recovered braking energy and an integrated starter generator, which not only restarts the internal combustion engine, but provides added oomph when required.
The Suzuki iM-4 has an overall length of 3693 millimetres, is 1709mm wide, has a height of 1566mm, and rides on a 2438mm long wheelbase. So, despite featuring two doors more than the Jimny Sierra, the show car is only 18mm longer and 109mm wider.
Significantly, the iM-4 uses a wheelbase that has an extra 188mm between the front and rear wheels, but the car's overall height is 139mm shorter than the Jimny Sierra currently available in Australian showrooms.
Suzuki officials have confirmed to Car Advice that a toned-down version of the iM-4 will head into production from 2016.
