Audi TT Sportback concept rendering leak

Alleged official renderings of a five-door Audi TT Sportback concept have been published online ahead of its supposed debut at next months's Paris motor show.

Over the past few days rumours have been getting louder that Audi will soon confirm that a third variant will be added to its TT range. Some had believed that a jacked-up off-road TT, in the vein of the five-door Audi TT Offroad Concept or the earlier three-door Audi Allroad Shooting Brake Concept, was the most likely candidate.

But if Auto Zeitung (Car Newspaper) is correct, the five-door TT Sportback will be the third variant and could be on the market by 2017. For the Paris show, the TT Sportback concept is said to be powered by a 294kW version of the company's 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

According to the German publication, the TT Sportback measures 4.47 metres from the front to the rear bumper, meaning that it's around 29 centimetres longer the coupe and convertible. With the rear seats folded down, the TT Sportback is claimed to be able to swallow 850 litres worth of amorphous gear.

The Sportback shares its cockpit design - which does without a central entertainment/navigation screen - with the rest of the third-generation TT range, although it will likely be blinged up and gizmoed out for the purposes of the motor show.

If the TT Sportback does make it through to production, it will be pitched against Mercedes-Benz CLA. The car will also be marketed as a more emotional and sportier alternative to the A3 sedan, which is around the same length as TT Sportback, but 30cm taller and 30cm narrower.

The apparent leak occurred within 24 hours of the unveiling of the third-generation Audi TT Roadster, which will now seemingly fight for limelight on Audi's Paris motor show stage.
