Speaking at the launch of the new Renault Clio GT, the local division’s managing director Justin Hocevar told CarAdvice the new-look Renault Megane range will launch here at the start of the third quarter of the year, stating it will again comprise of hatch, coupe, convertible, wagon and the halo performance Renault Sport (RS) variant.
Sporting the same 'New Brand Identity' (NBI) first seen in September last year, Hocevar said the small car's line-up will again be topped by the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder Renault Megane RS265 hot-hatch, despite rumours of an uprated RS270 model.
“There's a bit of speculation around that it might be more, I'm pretty sure that it'll continue to be a 265,” Hocevar said of the range-topping model that pushes 195kW/360Nm to its front wheels.
The new-look Megane range is expected to mirror the current line-up that launched locally in mid-2013, which was headlined by the addition of a 1.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a sporty GT-Line grade, and the arrival of the wagon bodystyle.
Other variants that are expected include a 1.5-litre turbo diesel and a GT220 model with a 2.0-litre petrol turbo version with 162kW of power.
No significant changes other than cosmetic tweaks and interior updates will be offered. The new nose of the Megane mirrors the brand’s family face, following in the footsteps of the Captur, Clio and Koleos.
