Nissan Maxima : new-generation large car to be a global model

The large car class may be waning in Australia, but a new-generation Nissan Maxima could be offered locally if the brand's chief gets his way.

The Japanese brand's next Maxima has been presaged by the Sport Sedan concept car, and is expected to be revealed in production trim at the Los Angeles motor show in November.

Nissan global chief planning officer Andy Palmer told CarAdvice that the style-focused new large sedan will carry plenty of the concept model's design cues, and it will not be a US-centric model as the current Maxima is.

"[New] Maxima will be a global model," Palmer said of the car that will slot above the recently added Altima mid-sizer, which is believed to be available in both left- and right-hand-drive.

"It isn't today - it's a US model that goes to a few other places. But the new car, looking something like that [Sport Sedan concept], will be a global model."

Nissan Australia told CarAdvice that the new-generation Maxima is not under consideration for Australia.
