Audi A4, A5: new quattro models, price cuts headline 2014 updates

A new emphasis on quattro all-wheel-drive models and a number of pricing revisions headline the updates to the 2014 Audi A4 and Audi A5 ranges.

Three new 2.0-litre four-cylinder quattro variants join the A4 sedan and A5 coupe/Sportback line-ups, while Audi Australia has knocked more than $7000 off select models in its A5 two-door range.

New to the Audi A4 sedan and A5 coupe/Sportback is the 2.0 TDI quattro S tronic, priced from $65,800 and $75,900 respectively. The trio is powered by a 130kW/380Nm turbo-diesel engine, which consumes as little as 5.3 litres per 100km on the combined cycle.

The Audi A4 sedan 2.0 TFSI's retuned turbocharged petrol engine now produces 165kW and 350Nm (up 10kW). The price of both models rises $1300 to $63,000 (manual) and $65,800 (S tronic).

Standard features in the new 2.0-litre petrol and diesel quattro models include reverse parking sensors with rear-view camera, 18-inch alloy wheels, xenon headlights, convenience key, and MMI Navigation plus with 20Gb hard drive and voice control.

The A4 sedan 2.0 TDI quattro S tronic replaces the front-wheel-drive 3.0 TDI, while the previous entry-level $52,700 A4 1.8 manual has been deleted from the line-up, forcing the starting price up $3100.

The new entry model, the A4 1.8 TFSI multitronic, benefits from an increase in standard equipment to offset the higher price, adding three-zone climate control and a colour Driver Information System. The A5 1.8 TFSI multitronic benefits from the same upgrades.

New option packages are also available for the base model A4: the $2990 Technik package, which adds MMI Navigation plus and parking system plus with rear camera; the $2200 Comfort package, with electric heated front seats, comfort key and auto-dimming interior mirror; and the $1690 Assistance package, which adds adaptive cruise control and active lane assist.

All Audi A5 3.0-litre V6 models now come standard with reversing sensors, rear-view camera and the S line exterior package.
