As we reported back in February, the four-cylinder replaces the previous 3.0-litre inline six. The new engine produces 180kW of power and 350Nm of torque, down 10kW but up 40Nm. The new motor not only allows for a faster 0-100km time of 6.7 seconds, but also improves fuel consumption to 7.5 litres per 100km - down from 9.0L/100km - with the aid of BMW's stop/start function. Emissions have also been reduced to 175 grams of CO2 per 100km, down 35g/100km.
Along with the addition of stop/start, the X3 xDrive28i now receives Business Navigation as standard – on par with the X3 xDrive30d. BMW's Driving Experience Control with Eco Pro mode is now also included across the entire X3 range as is the eight-speed automatic transmission.
While the previous BMW X3 xDrive28i was priced from $71,900, the new four-cylinder's extras see the flagship petrol variant's price increase $1000 to $72,900.
