Rumour has it Ford is looking to take on the Volkswagen Scirocco more directly and will use the well-received new Ford Focus platform to deploy a sporty coupe.

Specific details are yet to be confirmed, but if it is true, the Ford Focus Coupe will likely feature a range of engines and drivetrains taken from the standard Ford Focus lineup.

Reports say a performance version is also on the cards, using the 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine from the upcoming Ford Focus ST, which is expected to produce 184kW and 360Nm.

Ford has already announced it will unveil four new models at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, including one mysterious sports car design. Could a Ford Focus Coupe be one of them?

In the meantime, feel free to tell us what you think of a possible Ford Focus Coupe model. Is there demand for a two-door variant?
