Lexus CT 300h on its way

Lexus is thinking of introducing a Lexus CT 300h into the lineup in the near future. The car is set to be based on the recently introduced CT 200h (currently using Toyota Prius running gear), only it will offer considerably improved engine performance.

According to Tony Cramb, Lexus chief executive, the new model will offer more performance compared with the CT 200h but it will also showcase similarly low emission and fuel consumption figures. Reports say the new model will incorporate a larger petrol motor of unknown capacity and a higher output electric motor to match.

This could be a great move by Lexus as the current CT 200h is not exactly Earth-shattering when it comes to performance. And it's not meant to be, but for those who want a bit more power for overtaking or carrying a full car-load, a larger petrol engine could be just what the doctor ordered, especially if those extremely low fuel consumption figures are still achievable.

At the extreme end of the scale, rumours are also starting to spread about the possibility of Lexus introducing a CT F model, which will sit below the current Lexus IS F. The model is said to be a hot hatch version of the CT, showcasing serious performance credentials which will put it on par with the BMW 135i, Volkswagen Golf R and Audi S3.
