2012 Volkswagen Beetle Unveiled in New York
The Volkswagen Beetle has been reinvented once again with the introduction of the 2012 model year at the New York Motorshow.
Volkswagen has been careful to not only keep the original shape but modernize it to appeal to buyers in 2011. The 2012 Beetle is 1.808 m wide (8.3mm wider), 1.48m tall (12mm lower) and 4.27 meters long (152.4 millimeters longer).
The new VW Beetle can be had with a choice of thee engines: a 2.5-litre petrol five cylinder, a 2.0-litre TDI Clean Diesel and a 2.0L TSI turbocharged petrol engine.
The petrol models will come with either a 5-speed manual or optional 6-speed automatic on 2.5L models. Opting for a diesel Beetle will get you the option for a DSG 6-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The interior is very much Volkswagen but the Beetle gets its own unique touch with unique dials and a more rounded shape to the instruments.
Some of the more notable features of the new Beetle include an 8-speaker RCD 310 with the option for a sat-nav. There is also a transparent panoramic roof that is available as an option.
CarAdvice will have a review of the new Beetle as soon as possible so check back for more details and Australian specifications.
