So rare that I couldn't even select the correct variant in the drop down boxes.
The 1964 toyota crown ute is a magnet, a magnet for just about every old bloke at every shopping centre or servo. They all seem to know someone that had the sedan or a wagon but didn't know they even made a ute. Some tell me that it must have been a cut down ute. I even carry the owners manual which has pictures of the ute in it but some still don't believe me.
The thing is really nice to drive now that all the running gear and brakes have been replaced by hilux parts, it has also stopped the blank stare I used to get when trying to order something for it.
Even with the newer running gear it still would take its time down the quarter mile but would probably win if it was raced against a Massey Ferguson tractor from the same year.
The bench seat is of the old spring variety and very comfortable. It feels like a big old lounge chair.
There is about as much tech in it as you'd expect. When I wanted to put a radio in it I went hunting under the dash for the accessory circuit. I tested all of the about 4 wires and eventually found the accessory wire still taped to the rear of the key switch. It says a lot about the base model in the 60s when it came with a cigarette lighter (wired straight to the battery so its on all the time) and ashtray but no radio.
Safety was definitely not a priority to the designers of this car. No seatbelts, no boosted brakes, no collapsible steering column and a windscreen that explodes if it gets hit by a rock thrown up by a passing car.
The things that are wrong with it are the things I like about it.
I have done cars before but this is the one I've kept. If a third world dictator wanted a ute this is what they'd get. That about sums it up, I'm sorry but I just can't get to 500 words as per your recommendation.
