Toyota and Ford have demonstrated why every other carmaker is so desperate to add a pickup to their catalogues, at least in Australia.
Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot, Fiat, Renault and others are all keen to get a slice of the ute sales market the world over, with all but Fiat likely to bring their new utes to Australia.
VFACTS reveals that the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger have topped the sales chats in Australia for October, with the pair racking up 3352 and 3217 sales respectively. This is the first time two pickups have fought it out to be the nation’s top selling car for any month since records began.
In doing so, the pair has displaced what was the sales-leader for 2016 - Toyota’s Corolla - to third for October, and the HiLux has reclaimed the overall lead.
