Honda hints at next S2000 with OSM Concept
Honda has unveiled what is likely to become the next-generation S2000 at the British Motor Show as a thinly disguised eco-concept.
Carrying on from the hybrid CR-Z and FCX Clarity concepts - which have both been confirmed for production - the Honda OSM (Open Study Model) Roadster concept is touted as a next-generation low-emissions sports car.
However while "low-emission" has become an industry buzz-word in recent times, it is merely a marketing spin in Honda's case, with the original S2000 already classified as a LEV (Low Emissions Vehicle).
“We’re trying to show that low emission cars can be attractive,” says Andreas Sittel, Project Leader for OSM. “There is no reason why a car that’s more environmentally friendly can’t look great too – and be sporty and fun to drive.”
The design philosophy for the project was "Clean and Dynamic", ensuring the exterior and interior are consistent and harmonious - this can be seen at the rear of the car, where the body actually extends into the cabin between the seats.
The trim inside the car is finished in a gloss-effect blue leather accompanied by white leather highlights to match the one-off exterior paint called Mystic Pearl.
At present, Honda insists the OSM is exclusively a design study model, and there are no plans for it to enter production.
