2023 Mercedes-AMG C63 to cost more than $200,000, orders open next year

The new-generation Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance plug-in hybrid is tipped to cost close to or in excess of $200,000 when it arrives in Australian showrooms mid-2023 – a price increase of at least 20 per cent.

The 2023 Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance will be the most powerful – and the most expensive – generation of the iconic sports sedan to date.

The first non-V8 version of the top-shelf Mercedes-AMG C-Class in two decades is tipped to cost close to, or in excess of, $200,000 when it arrives in Australian showrooms from the middle of next year.

The 2023 Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance (using its official name) is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired to plug-in hybrid technology with a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system (read our reveal story here).

With a claimed 0-100km/h time of 3.4 seconds it is also the fastest edition of the Mercedes-AMG C63.

However, pricing is expected to increase by at least 20 per cent.

The most recent price guide shows the outgoing model listed from $168,000 plus on-road costs, but the new generation is tipped to cost close to or eclipse $200,000.

Australian pricing for the Mercedes-AMG C63 is due to be announced in June 2023, about a month ahead of the first planned arrivals in local showrooms from July 2023.

When asked to provide an estimate on pricing for the new model, a representative for Mercedes-Benz Australia told Drive: “Considering the level of technology compared to the outgoing car, you can expect an increase in price compared to the outgoing car.”

Mercedes-Benz Australia says it will not accept any pre-orders for the new-generation AMG C63 until pricing is announced next year.

“We don’t hold orders until the car goes on sale, once we know the price that’s when we take official orders,” the spokesman said.

When asked if Australia will receive a good allocation of vehicles – or if supply will initially be tight until production ramps up – the spokesman said: “It’s too early to reveal our allocation for Australia, but normally we have a good allocation of C63 because Australia and New Zealand are the biggest markets per-capita in the world.”

Historically Mercedes-Benz Australia sells between 1000 and 1500 examples of the AMG C63 sedan each year.

Given the expected demand for the new AMG C63 – and the recent switch to non-negotiable fixed prices – Mercedes says it will initially allocate vehicles according to customer loyalty.

“There are various ways we allocate cars to customers. Loyalty is a factor. We take into consideration how many cars a customer has purchased previously, how many other Mercedes cars are in their driveway,” the spokesman said.

“A lot of our repeat AMG buyers have a multi-AMG garage. There is a queue system as well for first-time buyers, so they are in the mix too.

“We haven’t had an indication from the factory to say how many cars we are going to get (but) we will do our best to get our fair share of vehicle allocation and get customers into cars as soon as possible.”
