Dodge preparing secret electric muscle car to reclaim sprint record from Tesla – report
The Tesla Model S Plaid launches from 0-100km/h in 2.1 seconds, and conquers the quarter-mile sprint in 9.23 seconds. Dodge wants to go quicker again.
US-based Stellantis subsidiary Dodge is developing a top-secret electric muscle car to snatch back the quarter-mile sprint record from Tesla’s recently-revealed Model S Plaid, according to a new report from the Detroit Bureau.
Details are so far thin on the ground, however the new vehicle is thought to be in line to wear the Challenger nameplate.
The 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon – which derives power from a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 – formerly topped the quarter-mile production vehicle charts with a time of 9.65 seconds (when running on high-octane fuel).
However, it was dethroned earlier this month by the Tesla Model S Plaid which conquers the benchmark sprint in a claimed 9.23 seconds.
It’s likely the launch of the new model will coincide with the next-generation petrol-powered Challenger and Charger, expected in late 2022 or early 2023.
According to the sources cited in the Detroit Bureau article, the American arm of Stellantis is currently developing “at least” six other electric vehicles, including a zero-emissions version of the Ram 1500 pick-up.
