2024 Ford Transit Custom price and specs: New van up to $5600 more expensive
Ford’s first new Transit Custom in more than a decade is due in Australia before the second half of 2024, arriving with more space and a higher price.
- 2024 Ford Transit Custom pricing and specifications
- Model range trimmed to two variants
- New technology and larger load space, no changes to turbo-diesel engine
- Priced from $55,990 plus on-road costs
The second-generation Ford Transit Custom – a smaller version of the brand’s iconic van – is due to go on sale in Australia between April and June 2024 with turbo-diesel power, as prices rise between $4600 and $5600 compared to its predecessor.
Unveiled in Europe more than a year ago, the 2024 Transit Custom is the first new-generation version of the van since its debut in 2012, launching first with diesel power before an electric battery-powered variant arrives down the track.
Available in both short- and long-wheelbase form (SWB and LWB) the 2024 Ford Transit Custom is priced from $55,990 plus on-road costs and $56,990 plus on-road costs, respectively.
These prices represent an increase of $5600 and $4600 compared to equivalent Transit Custom grades from the outgoing van, which was also available in higher-spec ‘Sport’ guise – a variant which has been dropped for 2024.
An all-new platform with independent rear suspension has resulted in a significant increase to the Transit Custom’s load length, rising from 2554mm to 3050mm for the SWB and 2921mm to 3450mm in LWB guise – resulting in total storage space of 5.8 and 6.8 cubic metres respectively (up from 5.7 and 6.6).
While payload capacity has dropped to 1269kg (SWB) and 1223kg (LWB) – down from the previous model’s 1353kg (SWB) and 1291kg (LWB) figures – braked towing capacity has increased to 2500kg for both body styles.
Under the bonnet, the Ford Transit Custom continues to be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, producing 125kW and 390Nm – driving the front wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
New technology inside the van’s cabin includes a 12-inch partial digital dash, Ford’s ‘Sync 4’ infotainment system – complete with a 13-inch touchscreen – which includes satellite navigation, wireless and wired Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and an onboard 5G modem.
Standard safety technology includes autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control, reverse brake assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and exit warning – the latter of which is intended to reduce the risk of hitting a pedestrian or cyclist while opening doors.
Ford no longer offered rear side windows for the Transit Custom, while dual side load doors continue as a $1000 optional extra.
Transit Custom buyers who want a paint colour other than the no-cost option Frozen White or three prestige options – Agate Black, Magnetic, Moondust Silver – for $700 can pay $1400 for one of 58 available ‘SVO Paint’ offerings.
Ford Australian has confirmed the Transit Custom will not launch with a unique feature which allows the steering wheel to be tilted flat to create a table or work space when the car is stopped.
The new Ford Transit Custom is due in Australian showrooms between April and June 2024.
