2016 Mitsubishi Triton and Pajero Sport recalled for tow-bar fix
Mitsubishi Motors Australia has this week issued a nationwide recall on a number of models in its 2016 MQ Triton and QE Pajero Sport lines fitted with a Mitsubishi Genuine Accessory tow-bar kit.
The Japanese car maker reports that fastening bolts on the tow-bar may become loose during operation and could lead to the tow-bar becoming detached, presenting a safety hazard to occupants and other road users.
According to Mitsubishi, a total of 8663 vehicles may be at risk: 1017 examples of the Pajero Sport and 7646 of the Triton.
Mitsubishi confirmed it has received reports of fastening bolts losing torque, but there are yet to be any reported instances of the issue causing a complete tow-bar detachment.
This is the second tow-bar-related recall to be issued for the 2016 Triton. Late last year, owners were called in to have tow rating labels replaced, as the previous labels had displayed incorrect figures. Like the current recall, it was aimed at vehicles fitted with Mitsubishi’s Genuine Accessory tow-bar kits.
Mitsubishi has begun contacting owners via mail.
